Professional & Academic Background

Shiva Amiri pursued her undergraduate studies at the University of Toronto, Canada’s top university, where she was an honours student and research assistant in Sociology and Evolutionary Anthropology. She completed her legal studies in Australian Law with a focus on International Law at Bond University in Australia, which is consistently ranked among the leading institutions for legal education worldwide, and later studied Canadian Law at Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto. This academic foundation has equipped her with well-rounded expertise and comprehensive knowledge as a legal practitioner.

As the Founder and Managing Lawyer of Amiri Law Firm, Ms. Amiri provides specialized services in family and divorce law, immigration and refugee matters, start-up and investment immigration, and personal injury litigation. She regularly defends and advocates for her clients before the Ontario Court of Justice, the Superior Court of Justice, the Federal Court of Canada, as well as the Refugee Protection Division and the Refugee Appeal Division, achieving successful outcomes in complex cases.

In addition to her practice, Ms. Amiri serves as Website Officer of the IBA Human Rights Law Committee, contributing to international advocacy and engagement on human rights and public international law. She has also worked as a Climate Change news writer and editor for the United Nations, demonstrating her commitment to environmental rights and human rights. Her work includes participation in major international advocacy forums—such as the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Universal Periodic Review of the UN Human Rights Council—as well as policy-oriented research, drafting submissions, public legal education, stakeholder engagement, and cross-border coalition-building.
